Arcam Delta Amp

I had this one brought in by a very desperate customer, he loved the amp so much and thought he would never find someone to repair it. The problem was the function selector switch, it was so noisy the amp was unusable. A phone call to Arcam confirmed that the switch was not available as a replacement part, so the only course of action was to remove and clean the old switch…easier said than done!

The amp had to be stripped down to a point where I could get under the switch to unsolder it, this took the best part of an hour. Then there were 35 pins to unsolder to remove the switch, then the casing around the switch had to come off by removing the front of the switch and pulling out the spindle. The motor was then removed from the side of the casing giving me room to remove the five rotary switches, each one was opened up to have the contacts cleaned, then replaced, remembering to get the alignment right before reinserting the spindle and reassembling the switch before soldering back into place.

All this gave perfect results and saved a 25 year old amp from the skip, hopefully it will go on for another 25 years.
