This system was brought in with a couple of problems, the cd wouldn’t read a disc and some of the function buttons needed an extra hard press, and even then it wasn’t guaranteed to select the correct function. So starting on the cd mech I found a worn loading belt and although that wasn’t causing the issue I replaced it anyway, there was a split in the shaft of one of the sled gears so that also got replaced but the main issue was a weak laser, once that was fitted it would read and play a disc perfectly. I moved on to the function switches (play, stop, pause etc), they all had tarnished contacts and although they can be cleaned up they don’t always go back together properly, so being a cheap item I replaced them all, the same went for the switches on the tape deck and the tuner.
I moved on to the tape deck, both belts were worn and got replaced and the mechanism was given a clean and lube, with the new switches fitted it worked flawlessly. Now for the tuner, as it was in bits to have the switches replaced I thought I would just check the memory back up capacitor, finding it wasn’t holding a charge I replaced that as well.
After all that work it was a perfectly functioning and very nice sounding system.
