Samsung Hi-Fi Repair

Next up – a Samsung system, tape decks not working, that’s obviously going to be belts, in fact I could see the remains of them sitting on top of the cd mech…speaking of which…the tray isn’t loading fully and therefore not getting the laser into a position where it can read the disc, that’ll be another belt but also the tray doesn’t stay open long enough to put a disc in, I found the door switch had nearly 1k ohms across the contacts, a bit of switch cleaner sorted that out but I can’t progress until the loading belt arrives, only then will I know if the laser is any good, if it’s not, and I can’t find a replacement, there won’t be much point moving on to the tape decks.

So the cd loading belt was eventually replaced and the laser is obviously ok as it’s now happily playing a disc…now to move on to the tape decks, what a mess the belts were, I was kind of expecting it as I had already seen fragments of belt sitting on top of the cd mechanism. I had no idea of the belt diameters so had to measured up as best I could and put some on order, while I was waiting for them to arrive I was able to clean the pulleys of all the goo! Once the (perfectly sized) belts arrived and were fitted I moved on to servicing the rest of the mechanics on the tape deck.

So that was it up and running, just a loading belt on the cd mech and a set of drive belts for the tape decks, luckily my measurements for the belts were spot on, what a pain to fit though, especially on the cd mech which was an absolute pain to remove and even harder to refit. Not really known for their HiFi but I think this system sounds quite nice. A good clean up and it was returned to it’s owner!
