I didn’t hold much hope for this old Sony, it had been stored for years and was in a bit of a state, but in the end all it needed was a set of new belts on the tape decks plus a good clean of the heads and pinch rollers, some switch cleaner in the noisy volume control and a new belt on the turntable…and a good clean, the tape decks were an absolute nightmare to strip down with over a dozen plugs and sockets to disconnect, then the motors to remove, at which point a spring and a plastic lever fell on the floor, it took a while to find where they had come from and then to work out the routing for the new belts as the old ones had crumbled away and didn’t give me any clue. Anyway, it was a relief when it was all back together and worked perfectly.
